Homeschool profile template — A template for use in making a homeschool profile document, similar to a school profile, a document which high schools routinely enclose when sending a student’s transcript to a college.

For colleges requiring official verification (e.g., via general education diploma tests), suggest parent email admissions to ask if institution will accept their self-certification of completion of high school:

• Review specific requirements for homeschoolers listed on institutions admissions page, e.g., Stony Brook University

• Include the statement in the NJ law that a parent is allowed to educate their child at home:

  • N.J.S.A. 18A:38-25 requires that “every parent, guardian or other person having custody and control of a child between six and 16 to ensure that such child regularly attends the public schools of the district or a day school in which there is given instruction equivalent to that provided in the public schools for children of similar grades and attainments or to receive equivalent instruction elsewhere than at school.”

  • Note: The provision, “to receive equivalent instruction elsewhere than at school” in N.J.S.A. 18A:38-25, permits a parent/guardian to educate the child at home.

• State that the student has completed requirements for graduation from high school, in accordance with NJ law allowing homeschooling, on [date of graduation on the transcript].

• Attach the final transcript.
